  1. In this day and time we should all be very aware of our surroundings. If a muggler finds one of our caches and it gets blown up, as has happend many times before, we should all try to learn from it and not make the same mistakes again that made it appear as a bomb for whatever reason. There is no reason to get angry and start name calling by either side. For those of you who don't have an understanding of basic electronic devices and explosives, you would not believe how easy simple small bombs would be to make. I learned at 11 years old and purely by chance how to make a small explosive device that could cause minor injury and I wasn't even trying to make one. With the information available today from the internet, the threat is greater than ever. If the bomb squad blows up one of my caches because it's suspicious then I say good for them. If they were not to blow a bomb that looked like a geocache and someone got hurt I wonder how many opinions on this subject would change. I believe the old saying here is it's better to be safe than sorry.
  2. I haven't read all the responces to this topic but here's my take anyway. If someone were to copy one of my cache ideas I would be flattered. I think it's fine as long as the copy isn't too close to the original. Not all cachers get the chance to travel like some and they wouldn't have the oppurtunity to do an original if no one copied great ideas. I have copied an idea myself and did contact the owner of the original and even went as far as to request a picture because I couldn't remember how all the pieces went together. The owner was hapy to do this and because of it others have had the chance to find a somewhat unique container. The idea is to have fun and spread the fun and the more interesting the cache the funner (is that a word?).
  3. Maybe the person who placed it there wanted to see if the finder would attempt to contact them. Who knows it may be the precurser to an even larger cash cache.
  4. Make up an email address that's free of cost to you. Put it back with a note in the bottle telling the person to contact you at the address and explain what is missing and why it was placed there, also have them give a way to be contacted such as their phone number but don't call them from anything but a pay phone so it can't be traced back to you. Date the entry in the bottle and give them a deadline or it belongs to you. Once you have made contact you can agree to leave it somewhere and then e the location back to them. If you want to know who it is just hang around and watch to see who picks it up. If they leave their phone number do a reverse look-up and get their name. You could even leave a boobie trap, one of those rope things that will hang them in a tree by their feet. Then you could coincidently find them and help them down asking what happened. When all is said and done place a cache in the hiding place in their honor. Or you could just replace the bottle with some of that shreaded money in it. While it may be honest money or illegal money just remember the decision you make is one you'll have to live with. If you end up keeping it after trying all else but are well enough off that you don't need it, find someone who does. If you don't know anyone just go hang out in a thrift shop and watch and listen it's easy to tell who "needs" it and who wants it. Just tag each bill with wheresgeorge and ask them to log the bills. It would be neat to see where your good deed went after that. O.K., I'm done giving fatherly advice, GO CACHE!!!!
  5. Instead of using a hook as mentioned earlier, you could use a piece of fishing line attatched to a bobber and your weight problem is solved and it doesn't give the cache away or matter if it falls in.
  6. On one of my first 10 caches I got almost to the cache when I realized I had left my goodies bag laying on top of the van. When we got back to it I found that not only did I leave the bag but I also left the drivers door wide open with the keys in the ignition. And I once left a retractable keychain I found in a cache (that I wanted for my son who was not with me this day) on the ground next to the cache. I had made good restitution for that item too.
  7. What if you combined the water cache idea with the soda can idea and allowed the cans to only fill up say half the pipe and put the cache in last so the extra cans would act as extra bouyancy thus allowing for the cache to contain heavier items. Or you could a can of compress air in place of the extra soda cans. Just my take on the weight problem.
