  1. Laid the last of my Berwickshire Coastal Caches, so there are now six caches along the Berwickshire coast ranging from the challenging, Sorry but cache advertising (apart from events) isn't allowed I've had to remve the details and lock the thread. You can always advertise on www.geocacheuk.org if you want to
  2. 19 Caches within 25 miles. However 6 caches have been placed by me, so I can only log 13.
  3. Hi, Does anyone have some Large (5" x 10", for an Ammo Box) Geocache stickers going spare. Tried the two UK suppliers listed on the Groundspeak shop site and while the stickers aren't expensive their postage costs are extortionate. I'am not paying nearly £5 for someone to post me a couple of plastic stickers. So give me a quote on 2 large (5" x 10") geocache stickers plus postage and I'll send you a cheque, if your price is resonable. Thanks, Meriadoc. PS. Or does anyone know of another UK supplier of geocaching stuff.
  4. The application of a KISS methodology would fend off creeping featurism.
  5. My complaints have resulted in the Chaingang releasing my T.B. While no malice was intended or caused, a lot of annoyance could have been prevented if an explaination of their intended actions had been given. Thanks to the Chaingang for quick release of my T.B.
  6. My T.B. has been out of circulation since: 11/18/2004. The "Return to the Scene of the Crime" event cache was poorly documented. While "ChainGang" does appear to be releasing the T.B., Of the 25 T.B. he has collected only 6 have been released. At this rate my T.B. could be out of circulation for months.
  7. I've sent a message to "ChainGang" the sock puppet that currently possesses my T.B., I quote: "I am both confused and concerned about the safety of my travel bug "Dougal the Dog". Please explain your plans for my T.B. and cut out the convict B.S." I haven't receive a reply. Of course he's probably playing up to his character, however their nonsense is starting to annoy. Too many T.B’s already disappear without having these clowns fake a kidnapping.
  8. The Sock Puppets "The Constabulary" and "ChainGang" have really p'ed me off (excuse the language). Why, because they are fooling around with my Travel Bug. I assume they are playing some stupid game, but I don't want my T.B. involved in their poorly documented events. They have already annoyed other geocachers, now they're annoying me. So if either geocacher is listen, please place my T.B. in a normal cache and let him be on his way.
  9. Hello, I've a travel bug that needs some help to achieve his goal. His name is Dougal the Dog (TB56A6) and he is currently in a cache in Southern California. His goal is to reach New Zealand, so he can round up some sheep. He managed to travel half way across the Pacific to Hawaii but a recent hop brought him back to the mainland. If anyone from Southern California is bound for New Zealand, it would be much appreciated if you would consider taking Dougal along for the ride. Many Thanks, Meriadoc.
  10. Dear Patrick, Thank you for the kind offer, however the T.B. has been returned to the U.S. mainland. Therefore I am hoping someone from the San Diago area will be bound for New Zealand in the near future. Meriadoc
  11. Hi Guys, One of my Travel Bugs is currently sitting snuggly in a cache on the north coast of the island of Maui. While my little friend's ultimate goals is to reach New Zealand, it would be great if he could visit the summit of Mauna Kea and be picture in and around the observatories. However before I amend his current goal I would like your advice on how feasible a proposition his new goal would be. Thanks Meriadoc
  12. Thanks for offering your assistance, Cin. If you think you can help, you are quite welcome to collect Dougal the Dog. It's just a shame that he can't be a pictured inside the premises amongst the happy minions.
  13. Hello, I am writing to ask if anyone would be willing to take "Dougal the Dog" on a tour of the Microsoft Campus. He would love to be pictured beside a Lucite "Ship-It" award, and with some of the happy minions busily coding the future. I hope someone can help. Thank you, Meriadoc.
  14. I was wondering why I couldn't find the message in the Northwest group. Then I realised what I had done. Do'h! That was a silly mistake. Sorry for bothering you guys. I've posted the message in the wrong group.
  16. I also found a xxxxxxxx in one cache which I now sometimes carry in my pocket. Those xxxxxxxxs are really useful. To quote Dr. Hibbert of Springfield, "Don't thank me - thank the xxxxxxxx!" Of course xxxxxxxxs can only be enjoyed by trained induhviduals.
  17. There is an interesting article over at the BBC. Has anyone bagged a confluence? A unique picture of the world, in 16,146 frames
  18. Hi, I writing to ask if there are any Washington based geocachers planning to travel to New Zealand within the next few weeks? If you are planning an antipodean trip, I would be greatful if would consider helping a little friend of mine. His name is Dougal, Dougal the Dog. Dougal is currently hanging out in a park in Seattle. You can learn more about Dougal here: http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=22182 Yours Faithfully, Meriadoc.
  19. There isn't much you can do if you don't have your medical bag with you. Caches should be maintained by their owners. Logging that the cache is in poor condition should prompt the owner, into visiting their cache to undertake the required repairs. I suppose some zip lock bags, a couple of sheets of Kitchen roll and maybe a spare pencil, would be useful items to carry on caching trips so basic repairs can be undertaken.
  20. One of my caches recently disappeared without a trace. I am therefore planning on replacing it, as the location was nice and the cache had received high praise. However I would like to ask some questions of other geocachers who have had their caches trashed or stolen: After having replace a trashed/missing cache, has it then, soon after, been trashed or gone missing again? Has anyone every caught a trasher in the act, or do you have any interesting stories? Apart from clearly labelling the cache, what other precautions could be take to insure that they don't go missing. i.e. could you chain them in place?
  21. I've been provoked, point by point..... I was going to respond to washboy's post point for point, however after mulling it over, I've come to the conclusion that it isn't necessary. This thread is nearly exactly what I wanted it to be. We now have more information on how moderators / approvers work and details of when we can expect new moderators to be appointed. I still think this forum must discuss the issues further. And some kind of meaningful poll should be taken. We can still make a democratic recommendation to Groundspeak, they may listen or they may not. If the discussion doesn’t descend into bickering and insults then it’ll be very therapeutic for this forum. It would be useful to hear of the day-to-day (not GAGB) details / experiences from actual moderators (ex-moderators if they can control any outstanding bitterness ). So any would be volunteers would know what to expect. This relatively unknown, local but vocal cacher is going to try counting some sheep, and thus hopefully he’ll be able to get some rest. 22. quote:Originally posted by kennamatic As the system stands at the moment, and Moss is right in as much as it is unlikely that Scotland, Nothern Ireland and Wales will have their own listings Hopefully this will be my last post of the night, before I retire to my slumber. I am going to be very pedantic here, but the above quote should include England as well. Without Scotland, there is technically no United Kingdom. I now fully expect "Moss Trooper", to kidnap and torture me in the depths of Hexham Goal. Enough baiting the Riever. While it would be nice to have some diversity of location, when it comes to moderator/approver, if there doesn't exist north of the border any willing or experienced individual then an all-English crew will have to suffice. I would volunteer myself although I haven't the necessary Geocaching experience under my belt, and would thus probably do a terrible job. While re-reading the thread it became apparent that 3 groups/people have volunteered to become moderators. Wouldn't it also be useful to start a new thread "Moderators Wanted" advertising for new moderators and stating what their duties (Groundspeak point of view) would be? We should then wait a week in the case that any would be moderators are on holiday. [This message was edited by Meriadoc on May 15, 2003 at 06:37 PM.]
