  1. That is a really cool geocoin. I would like to add that one to my collection. I happen to carve Greenmen and here is one that I carved recently.
  2. Ahhh yes! Mission complete Bartians received thier coin on January 4th and AlliedOz recieved thier coin today. So it took 16 days to make the trek across the ocean.
  3. Congrats again to the winners and thanks to everyone that participated. Looks like I am shipping one coin stateside and the other one overseas to Australia. I have had a few inquiries this morning about how to get a hold of one of these coins. If you are interested just send me a message through my profile. I can then send you out a paypal invoice. The coins are $10 plus shipping and handling fees. They come in Silver metal with blue accents and Gold metal with red accents.
  4. Okay everybody! It is about half an hour past 8PM mountain time. Everything is in order and time to do the drawing. I think it is pretty awesome to receive 66 responses on such short notice. Just for that, I have decided to draw for 2 coins. Drum roll please! The winners are Bartians and AlliedOz Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everybody who participated. And of course, Happy New Year!
  5. Thought I would do a give away to bring in the New Year. Starting now, till tomorrow evening 1/1/13 at 8pm Mountain time to sign up. Just say you want in, on this thread. I will take all the geonames at the deadline and do a random draw. My youngest (PandaPrincess7) will draw the name. I will then post the winner and get the mailing information. The winner will receive the very first official South Dakota state Geocoin as designed by me. It is brand new and unactivated. Happy New Year!
  6. Do you have this set up under a private group (such as Geocachers) or do we just join the public group? Never played this one before as I usually do Yahoo NFL fantasy.
  7. Now that the Black Hills Geobash V event is over, I still have plenty of coins left in my inventory in both metals. If anybody else out there is interested in an SD Geocoin or two, just contact me.
  8. That is awesome! Glad you liked the coin. Now that the Black Hills Geobash V event is over, I still have plenty of coins left in my inventory in both metals. If anybody else out there is interested in an SD Geocoin or two, just contact me.
  9. The South Dakota Geocoins arrived about 2 weeks ago, right before the Black Hills Geobash V event. Now that the event is over and the dust has settled, I will be getting in touch with people that pre-ordered and getting these coins shipped out. Thanks

  11. I have never shipped anything overseas or to Canada before, but maybe some of the overseas and Canadian coiners can give me some pointers. Like what are the general shipping charges for 1 coin to ship to Canada or overseas from the US, and how is it packaged? How is the coin listed on the customs form as what it is? I do know that Canada has rules about importing products from china and has to be listed on the form. Most coin companies within the US contract out of China like Oakcoins. I have been bombarded with orders from our 4 state region via other sources of communication, but am highly considering giving overseas shipping a try if it were just a few orders.
  12. I guess it would be more like a reservation now that you put it that way. I will put you down for 2 coins and will let you know when they come in. Also thanks for the compliment on the coin
  13. A few years back I had seen a topic about a geocacher asking why the state of SD does not have a geocoin. I too had thought about this as I am a resident here. After many years of speculation, the South Dakota state geocoin is now a reality. For the past several years I have tried to get this project off the ground to no avail and had abandoned the idea. However, earlier in the year I went to work on some sketches and came up with some more ideas for the coin that would best represent the state of South Dakota. A friend of mine helped me out with the final graphics on his Mac and then I sent in the images to Oakcoins. This coin contains the state motto, slogan, shape of SD inset with 4 icons from the state. The black hills spruce, ringneck pheasant, walleye and the coyote are all depicted within the shape of the state in traditional geocaching colors. In the back ground of the state image is a really cool compass rose design. On the front is Mt.Rushmore in 3D with a waving American flag in the background. I also decided to include the year this coin was minted, as this is the first geocoin to represent the state. The tracking numbers are on the outer rim of the coin as not to detract from the artwork. This coin can be purchased in 2 different metals. Antique Silver or Antique Gold. The silver has the blue accents while the gold has the red accents. The cost is $10 per coin. I am now taking pre-orders for these coins until July 1st, 2012. The coins will then go to mint on July 2nd. I am hoping to have them back on time for the Black Hills Geobash V event in mid August. When the coins arrive from mint I can send out a paypal invoice and get the coins sent out. Or you can come join in the fun at the Black Hills Geobash V and pick your coins up. The only stipulation I have is that I am only taking orders within the US and am not shipping overseas at this time. There is a possibility I could ship some of these coins overseas after the event.
  14. I put your order down and will shoot you an email when they arrive. Also posted information on this forum for the Black Hills Geobash V. Maybe you can take a vacation and make it back out this way.
  15. Got your email and shot you a response. Glad you can make it out this way and have fun on your travels. No problem on showing this to your local geocachers. I will be taking pre-orders till July 1st. When the coins come back from mint I will send out a paypal invoice and then ship them out. Hoping to keep shipping & handling to a minimum.
  16. I would like to personally invite all geocachers to attend the Black Hills Geobash V this coming August. This is a 3 day event on August 17-19, 2012. The location is Spearfish SD at Chris Camp, hosted by Team Furrballs and myself, Jedi Cacher. A brief summary of the event is as follows: On Friday evening there will be a Chili cook-off event . On Saturday morning there will be a new cache release and a poker run. Also open caching throughout the day. On Saturday evening there will be a BBQ and firepit social. On Sunday morning there will be a CITO and open caching. Lots of cool door prizes to be given away too. Also a raffle for some handcarved hiking sticks. For sale we have event Tshirts and the much anticipated South Dakota geocoins hot from the mint. There are also lots of cool things to see in the area like beautiful Spearfish Canyon, historic town of Deadwood, Devil's Tower and Mt.Rushmore. You have 2 months before this event, so get your vacation slips approved and come make it out here for this great event!

  18. I recently submitted an EC that was a geothermal mineral spring that was denied too. However, I am somewhat confused on the new guidelines as I read them before collecting my data and doing research on the EC in question. In the guidelines 5.1 it states acceptable as:"Geological phenomena - impact craters, geysers, mineral springs, etc." Then in 5.5 it states " Artesian Wells/Springs: A general description of how an artesian well or spring forms will not be accepted. The EarthCache should include details about the geological conditions that caused the specific artesian well/spring to be formed at the selected location." My EC was a geothermal mineral spring and explained in detail about the geological properties at the site and how it was formed. I thought for sure that my EC would get published as I complied by the guidelines. The two sections of the guidelines seem to contradict itself. Am I now to understand that all springs no matter what, will never become a published EC? Just hoping for some clarification on this. Despite being turned down, I really appreciate the efforts of all the reviewers as they do such a great job and don't always get the credit they truly deserve.
  19. Thanks! I will make the necessary adjustments to my older Earthcache.
  20. I currently own 2 Earthcaches. My first Earthcache GC1WHNH was placed in July of 09 and at the time you could make a photo part of the logging requirement. I then placed GC2CWEY last year when the logging requirements changed to an optional photo. In order for my Earthcache to be published I had to change my logging requirements to an optional photo of the cacher at the Earthcache site. I must also clarify that the submission of the photo is only a portion of the logging requirement as the cache is intended to be a learning experience and to enjoy the wonder of it. I feel that also by taking a photograph at the Earthcache site provides further proof that the cacher was actually there and didn't get the answers from a geo buddy. 21. That being said, I've heard that some Reviewers may ask you to not duplicate coordinates of an existing Listing so that they be more clearly differentiated on the maps. Thanks for the info as that would make sense. I have seen Earthcaches published this year that are within the 600ft of Virtual caches, so I don't see why this wouldn't also apply to Traditional caches too. My Earthcache coordinates are not the same as the nearby Traditional cache, but they are about 400ft away. I have to utilize these coordinates as they are for an observation deck. Too bad there is no longer a contact on the Earthcache site to submit my question, so thought I would give it a try on the forums. Might contact my local reviewer to see what she can find out.
  22. I have been wanting to place an Earthcache at a particular location for about the past 2 years. I was in the area and finally received permission to have my Earthcache placed at the location. I have one Earthcache that I placed a year ago- GC1WHNH, so I am familiar with the guidelines. However, I noticed there are now new guidelines. I remember the old guidelines stating that an Earthcache can be placed near a physical cache if there was permission granted by the cache owner. Does anybody know the criteria of placing an Earthcache within 600ft of a traditional cache?
  23. I purchased the bike mount kit on Saturday and it comes with a cover and handle bar wrap mount. The cover does not fit the Vista HCX, but it does fit the older model Etrex units. But like stated above, the accessory mount clip that comes in the GPS box does screw on to the existing back plate and then clips onto the handle bar mount. It works perfectly and I wouldn't have known that if it weren't for this thread, so I thank you for that bit of info. I participated in the Fat Tire festival mountain bike-geocaching race yesterday and it was a lot of fun. It was a 14.7 mile course with 12 hidden stages. It was a blast. Hope to do it again next year.
  24. I googled this topic and noticed this thread from way back. I was shopping around today for a bike mount for my Vista HCX. The kit at my local sporting goods store had a handle bar mount that also included a back cover with a built in adapter. I noticed this back cover looked very different from my Vista HCX so I did not purchase it as I knew it would not fit. After reading this thread I went in search of the box it came in and hoping my wife had not tossed it out. I found the dusty old box and retrieved the adapter from inside it that I never even knew I had. I am now eager to purchase the handle bar mount for my mountain bike and see if the supplied adaptor will work.
  25. Hmmm, sounds like a beautiful place! Most of the caches in my part of the country contain poison ivy in the area, but not the fault of the hiders as it just happens to grow about everywhere. I am highly susceptible to contracting the dreaded itch while others can roll in it and nothing happens. I know what it looks like and try my best to avoid it, but some how I get it every summer. It won't stop me from caching though. I got the worst case of poison ivy last spring at this cache GC1RHHJ. It itchy rash lasted about 6 weeks, but it was one of the most awesome caches. I was with 2 other cachers and they walked away unscathed. Bear Grylls of the TV show Man verses Wild filmed an episode at the cache location where he jumped into the pool near the waterfall. Sweeeet!
