  1. Your Operating System: Windows Vista Your Browser with Version number: IE no idea how to find which verson edit to add I found it v8 Cache GC26B1R I started writing the coding on the actual page but then as the box was so narrow I copied it to Notepad so that I could see the actual page open and correct the coding for that mistake and then copy the correction across. What I found that I would end up with another problem. It (and my 10week old son crying) is driving me nuts. Have just gone throught the whole thing on this site again correcting everything for it come up with brand new problems yet again. Basicly whole sections get changed. Not the whole page. < becomes %3C > becomes %3E spaces become %20 and web addresses get deleted WHY? WHY? WHY?
  2. BACK ON TOPIC How can I tell which version my pc is running of Internet Explorer?
  3. blame it on the slow economy, what else can one do while waiting for the markets to pick up?...you guessed it, geocaching I am constrained by outside forces to add anything more. Sometime down the road I may fill ya in what the peripheral damage is. don't take everything you read too serious, i am aware of "the peripheral damage", it was a joke, the smilie will indicate that You made a mistake assuming I didn't see the joke. My response was not of ignorance of the tongue in cheeck remark, but of a real situation. I was listening to the news on tv recently and there have been studies done showing that taking a break (5 to 10 mins) each hour doing non work personal stuff actually can increase productivity. Agreed some people go over board with it and it would reduce the amount of work they get done. Had a work mate who could easily take 2 smoke breaks an hour and not consider it wrong to then also take her morning tea and lunch breaks. I'm sure she spent just as much time away from her desk not working as she did at her desk. Even felt the boss was picking on her when asked how many ciggi breaks she took.
  4. I know I'm a few days behind in reading this but this made me , will be for the rest of the day I'm sure.
  5. My account has 16 geocoins, some are mine and some are my sons (they don't have accounts of their own). Of these 10 only travel with me to events which leaves 6 of which 2 are still being logged so 4 which isn't many except when you look at percentage of those traveling have either been kept be cachers or lost in muggled caches. I would still like to send some more out to travel as I love seeing where they go but I just haven't had much luck so far.
  6. Well I didn't want to think about this mission for ages as the one that I sent out went missing from an event straight after it got picked up! I placed it near state highway 1 in a traditional so as it would be picked up quickly. It wasn't, after a month of not moving I was about to move it when it was picked up and taken about 800kms north to an event. In to which it dissapeared with out a trave.... That is untill about 10 months later and it was found in the car of the person who took it to the event!!! Oh I am so glad that the first coin I ever traded is on the move again!!! Hopefully it will have faster travels from now on. As to the coin that is on the way to me, well it was coming from Sweden and has travelled so far to Rhode Island east coast USA. So I am still hopefull that it will arrive at some stage. Thanks for orgainising this mission.
  7. Yep I've done that it was a terrain 3 I was glad to make it out in one piece. [No I wasn't ftf either and after what I went through to get there 'what the ...' comes to mind when I saw that other name already on the log!! Walked along the 'beach' and decided that it was easiser to walk on the sand than the rocks, that was the first mistake. Kept going until we saw a fence decided to go inland, wrong again. At least I made one good decision and that was to leave hubby and boys here to eat lunch and I would go the last 230m through the trees following the fence line, can't be that hard could it. How wrong can someone be, VERY!! Only wearing slip on footwear. Lots of pine needles on the ground which was not a problem until I got to about 90m to go. Then it started going straight up. Looking at what was in front of me it didn't look to bad. So of I went, there was a ftf to claim, would take too long to find another way in. If you too ever get to this point TURN BACK! Started of upright, progressed to using hands, at one point even used my knees. Each time I looked up the top seemed just as far away. Never did have the guts to look back. All I remember thinking was going up is easier than going down. Can't remember a time when I have been so scared in my life. Finaly got to the top to find a fence with barbed wire at the top blocking my way, found a way past it, still not looking back down that hill. Went to ring husband to let him know I had survived to find there is no cell phone coverage, I guess he found that out too as next thing I know I can hear him calling out to me. No idea what he said. After that cache was easy find. As said above 'What some one else has been here first!!' So for everyone else the sign that you want is at ] south fortytwo degrees fiftyone minutes nineteen seconds, east onehundred and seventythree degrees eighteen minutes eight hundred and seventyseven seconds [if you walk along the inland side of the line of rocks you should see it easy, just like I did on the way back to the car. Then on another multi cache I somehow added a waypoint without realising it in the middle of a braded river. The cache was all about differect geocaching hazards and the placer has a habit of getting people wet looking for their caches so I crossed over to the island. That was ok, searched around counldn't find anything. Realised what had happened and had to cross back to the car. Couldn't remember where I had first crossed over so picked a point and started off very slowly and carefully to stop the water sloshing over the top of my gumboots, it just kept getting higher and higher. Only had about 9 feet to go couldn't be bothered going back to find a better crossing point so went for it . The water only ended up being an inch over my boots - flip it was cold.
  8. Sometimes yes sometimes no. Actualy I have one like this. The old one had so many complaints about it that the out of town cacher who placed it (they moved after placing it) got a number of dnfs in a row they archived it. I was really pleased as I had already checked out a (imo) better location about 30 feet away from the original. On the other hand a long running cache in a near by city was about to be archived because it had gone missing again and the owner no longer lived close enough to look after it. This was adopted by another local and is still going strong. How much history does the cache have, is it one that everyone recomends to others to find, if so I would just replace it and look after it even without the adoption. If it is just another cache get it archived and then decide if it is worth placing a new one there.
  9. 1. Lots of countries have caches. 2. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Do a search by country or find out coordinates for any cities you wish to visit and that will give you an idea of how many are in the area you plan to visit. Some places have excellent public transport or plenty of caches within walking distance of where you are likely to stay so this will make it easier to find caches. Other countries have their pages in languages other than English, they may have less caches, less public transport and so caching could be harder. On the other hand if there is a cache there it is never impossible to find it (unless muggled ).
  10. They can either 'grab' it from you or you could drop it at the cache and they can then pick it up from the cache which would make the milage correct.
  11. I would have thought a kitchen pass was when you have done enough work in the kitchen (around the house) to be allowed to spend time out geocaching with out being nagged at when you got home for being away too long cause the taps still dripping or the lawn still hasn't been mowed sort of thing.
  12. Maybe its just me but I would be less than impressed with this and would have said so. The two cachers (I live in a small area) have never given me the answer for anyone elses cache. The will happyily let me moan and groan about how hard a cache is but wont tell me where it is. If it is suppossed to be done at night and someone figures out how to find it in the day fine, but I see that as different to being told where the final is. Sorry op I have no clever suggestions as to how to stop it. Do you know who the group is who does it? Maybe a few e-mails saying that you have heard that some people are passing on final coordinates to others and if they come across someone doing it that you would prefer that your final coordinates where kept private so that it doesn't just become a traditional for anyone other than the first person to find it. Sure its a game but do you need to find every cache? I think not.
  13. Try the NZ forums http://forums.gps.org.nz/index.php there is a section called buy and sell someone there will be able to tell you the best place in NZ to get what you are wanting.
  14. Try changing the tbs name to "STOLEN TB" you will either see it placed in a cache or it will make no difference. I have heard of some people having their tbs and geocoins re-released into the wild after they did this.
  15. Hi canajanz You will find lots of New Zealand cachers on http://forums.gps.org.nz/ . Do a search and you will find plenty of opinions on which gps is best and also how / where to find maps for New Zealand.
  16. I log a DNF if I start to look around gz for the cache. If I intend to look for it but don't get there eg river was in flood I write a note. At least that way the owner knows that there are still people out there interested in finding their cache and hopefully they won't archive it. Also could be an indicator that the difficulty or terrain rating (depending on the information in the dnf or note) needs to be changed.
  17. Sorry about the delay The geocoin that was gifted to me has been taken to an event and is now on the move again. Yippee!! The geocoin that I was gifting to another geocacher has been activated, finaly got a tag added and was placed in a cache today. I hope it makes a safe journey to it's new owners.
  18. Add me to the NO group. This only causes more problems and doesn't solve any.
  19. Have you loaded your home coordinates? That is the only thing I can think of.
  20. I check in the morning and at night and sometimes the afternoon. Then again I live in a area with not too many other geocachers so new caches don't come along that often. Not that stops me I got 4 now.
  21. Look at who has placed caches nearby and contact them directly or find a UK geocaching site and post a thread there stating you are wanting to place some caches in area x and were looking for some locals to maintane/adopt them once published and try in the UK section (oh I see you have lol)
  22. Yes there are two left. One in Washington state and one in Brazil.
  23. Wow congratulations on your first find! Our first hunt ended with a dnf it was about a 5 litre container how do you miss it! We have since found it and were soooo close to getting it the first time. Then we went continued on the first day to find our the following cache a small film cannister which is sort that are recommened to leave till you have more experience lol. Just remember now that you have found one that it is ok to log a dnf or a note if you are no longer having fun. It's the journey (and the fact you got the 11 year old outside) that counts. Hope you have as much fun as we do.
  24. If you give the coordinates and you just have to go and find it then they would just be traditionals. It doesn't matter how hard they are to find! You just need to make sure you have permission, it is weather proof and doesn't look too much like a pipe bomb (what ever one looks like).
  25. I agree with the OP, now my only complaint is that you complained about them all before a I did and now everyone will just think I'm copying you.
