  1. WVDan, I have just the cache for you. Tunneling Bookworm Cache in Wytheville. It's a quick cache to grab right next to I-77. There are a few more caches nearby that you can grab if you find you have a bit more time. Keyed Up! takes a bit longer but may have more interesting trade items. Either way, enjoy your trip!
  2. Leprechaun has probably sent you to the best spot--it's not far from either I-64 or I-79, and like he said it has a good number of good caches to choose from. Take I-79 to its end in Charleston, follow I-77 and I-64 from there (South and East) until you reach exit 99. You can't miss the exit--there will be a large mummified building in front of you (WV State Capital.) Take a left at the exit and take a left at the Go Mart a little past the airport (stay in the right lane past the airport.) Same thing from I-64--follow that east until it joins with I-77 and keep going East. If you lose I-64, you're heading North. Ok, this is too much directions for people with a GPS, but I sure couldn't figure out where exit 99 when I first came to the area. Fortunately I found it in time for the plane! Now I'm just waiting to see Leprechauns in our area...
  3. Happy Birthday Bluet! I see you know how to celebrate! Hmm... We really need to leave that thing in your cache... sometime this week. Really!
  4. Ooh--event cache and a diet! Nobody in my family eats Chinese, so we wouldn't have to worry about gaining weight there... We're up for an event. Huntington sounds good to me. Any caches to be placed for the event?
  5. After a quick email search... here's a clip of the last email I received from Team EarthQuakers on May 17: Thanks for your help..... but I think we've had a change of mind...... We are making plans to show up for the annual Rocket Boy's Days and see if we can retrieve this ourselves. I don't know when Rocket Boy's Days is/was, but hopefully they managed to retrieve the cache on that visit. Otherwise hopefully Keystone can get the coordinates for you so you can see if there's a cache there.
  6. Ah... sure looks like that was the cache--Keystone's post showed up when I sent my post.
  7. Someone contacted me a while back about a cache in your area--I'm guessing this is the same cache. After talking with the hider and Keystone Approver a bit, the hider decided to remove the cache. I don't know if the cache was actually removed, and I also don't remember if he was going to remove the cache or have someone else handle the removal. The original email to me was asking if I could help with the cache (either by adopting or helping to watch the cache) because it was close to one of my caches. Our cache is the Horton Hears A Panther Cache, and their cache was about 10 miles or so from there--I think very close to your area. Does this sound like the same cache? Any chance of seeing you or Catman at the event Sunday? (Shepp's Birthday Bash in Dunbar)
  8. Wow--congratulations on 300 instep_guy!
  9. Why does it seem like we're always saying: Congratulations Floopy! Oh... you keep getting all those big milestones. 4000 next thursday?
  10. Aw, 701 doesn't count. I like the idea of a new forum as well. Maybe throw a couple other things in with milestones--some other sort of celebrations? It would be a good forum to watch and then you'd still get the email telling you who hit the milestone (or whatever the subject line says.) I wouldn't want that to be just a NE milestone forum--cover the whole world. I'd love to hear how the people are doing in other areas, and I rarely go to forums for other areas.
  11. Not a chance--she's been with me on just about every cache hunt. There have been many where I would have been looking much longer (or given up on) without her help. Also she's always wanting to cache. You can say the word quietly a few rooms away and she'll be ready to go! So... what are the latest stats for WV finds?
  12. It sounds to me like you can only enter once for the photo and once for the essay during each entry period no matter how many Jeeps you find. It'd be cool to be able to enter again every time you find a Jeep. I'm guessing they figured it'd be more fair this way--it doesn't matter if you find one or 100 Jeeps--you get the same chance at the contest. Now if you don't find any that's a different story. This does make me think of another question. Some have entered multiple pictures (and I'm guessing essays as well.) What happens if you enter more than once? Is the first entry used? Is the best entry used (a bit unfair I think)? Are they all discarded? So many questions... Where's my Jeep?
  13. So, how many dogs will be at this event? Do we need to put a birthday hat on Tazz? Can't wait to see everyone there! (Just a minor edit to this post.)
  14. Wow! Congratulations Leprechauns! Unfortunately we won't be able to join the celebration Saturday--we'll do our best to show up for the #2000 celebration! I hope you get a big crowd for this celebration--lots of celebrating plus an area that's in my top 5% of places to cache. Have fun getting the next 1000 or so!
  15. I think that last question answered the rest--he manages to avoid the near-death experiences and can find the caches much faster than us that way.
  16. Thanks for mentioning Hometown. It really must be time to get the cache fixed properly (it's findable as it is now.) My guess is the ground is pretty dry now. Since they cut down a lot of the trees there the area tends to be either flooded or just muddy much of the time, so I imagine it could be trouble for some handicaps. You can usually find a way to the cache without too much trouble in the mud unless the Washington Park part (outside the part in the woods) is soggy as well.
  17. Yes that would be a good cache. The virtual caches would probably be good as well. We just found Rich Mountain Battlefield. Other good ones would be Ritter Park 3N1 Virtual Cache, Mission Easy, Madonna of the Trail #3, and maybe Virginia Point Virtual Tour. I'll see what else I can come up with.
  18. What caches do you think would be best for people with handicaps to find in WV? MeeMaw mentioned "A Cache For Harris" as a possibility in another topic. I think this would be a good cache for most. Please list what caches you think would be good, and any comments about what might limit people from finding the cache (or even help them.) Bluet's Find The 9 would be pretty good, but the grass and other land features may cause trouble for wheelchairs. Our Welcome to St. Albans cache should be findable by anybody day or night if you know where to look.
  19. Sounds like a good one to try. That cache may even favor some handicaps. For example: If I was in a wheelchair, I probably wouldn't have hit my head at the cache. I'm sure you'll find plenty that he can find with you. Maybe not our Land of the Lost, but I imagine he'll be able to find more caches than you realize (might have to get a bit creative, though.)
  20. Congratulations, Mopar! We hope to see you at an event or cache again sometime soon!
  21. I can wait a few minutes easily for a website to show up on my screen. What bugs me is when it times out when I'm trying to get a nearest caches listing to find the next cache to log and it just shows an empty list. Maybe we need something on each cache page that'll make it easier to get to the next cache to log. I'm thinking either a list of the first few caches near that cache, or just a place to enter a GCID to get to the next cache page. I'm guessing the second option would help save some time for the system and maybe speed things up a little on the weekend when everyone's logging.
  22. Congratulations, Mrs. DX! Keep up at this rate and mike's biggest competition will be his own wife! MeeMaw--I'm sure you can find a few caches to hunt with him, but I'm sure you've grabbed all the handicapped accessible caches near here. I hope you don't have to go too far to find something you can search for together. Otherwise you can always take him to some you already found. Maybe there's something in the Ashland area you could try.
  23. Congratulations, Bluet! I didn't realize that was #100 we were talking about today. Doesn't #100 feel great? We hope to find some more with you soon!
  24. Great avitars! I like my current avitar. Too bad the actual bear was taken from a cache--I haven't been able to find one just like it since. The problem with my avitar is that I'm not the only one caching here. Our whole family caches and we just log with my account. I'd love to have an avitar for the family. What we'd really like to have is a B&W picture we could use to make a cache/letterbox stamp for our family (avitar would be color.) We use a Garmin Legend, and occasionally our old yellow etrex. For now we usually have our Handspring Visor Neo with us for cache sheets. I don't think we need these in the picture. My name: Man In The Wild is a combination of "Wild, Wonderful West Virginia" and the Styx song "Man In The Wilderness." I've had the name since the early 90s. My wife: Queenfish. She likes fish and Queenfish just sounded right. Our daughters: Comet Horse--she wanted a horse and she liked the name when I mentioned the horse from Supergirl comics. Miss Cheetah--she decided a Cheetah was her animal, and it's worked well for her. I often call her Cheetah now even when we're not caching. We'd love to see something with all of these combined. It sounds very crowded to me, but I always pictured my bear walking near a creek with the "Queenfish" and the horse and cheetah on either side. Everyone looking friendly (but not too cute.) I figure if I made a stamp like this it'd take up a log book page. I've also been working on making a stamp of just my bear. Individual stamps for everyone could work as well--we'd just use the stamp of the person that found the cache. Thanks for any help you (anyone) can offer! Also, thanks for making all these great avitars for everyone else!
  25. They'd have to bring it here for him... otherwise he's probably going to Camden Park.
