  1. "Police Capt. John Sarnicky said the department wants to know where the caches are. If police knew the locations, he said, they would still have to investigate calls about suspicious packages but could possibly tailor their response." This is a good reason why being able to see a map of all the caches in a nearby area available to the public (not just premium members) would be beneficial. PD could just put in the zip and see where all the caches are. Also, something like this I'd suggest people put geocaching.com and the waypoint on the outside of the container. That way, if hte above doesn't come true PD doesn't have to go through the entire lists of caches in an area to see if one of them could possibly be the object in question.
  2. I trade once and awhile if I have something to trade as that is how the sport got started. But sometimes I don't. I will pick up 5 cent toy bags from garage sales to use for trading.
  3. I've seen many thing that were used for a cache in just my 24 finds I have found the fake rock. I also found one that was a hollow bolt in a well pump. Some cool stuff. I plan on getting a fake rock for a hide near me because I know kids can be in the area alot I want to try and not make it attract them.

  6. I will pick up items to cache with at garage sales 5cents for a whole bag of army men, sure!!
  7. Register my.geocaching.com and have that go directly to the person's "my cache" page. Kinda like how my.works.
  8. Grab Utopia software from here. http://www.texasgeocaching.com/tools.asp Once you load up waypoints you can have the software take you to topo, mapquest, terraserver, cache page for that waypoint.
  9. Are they free email accounts like yahoo and hotmail? I've had that happen on those.
  10. If it wasn;t for power spikes it wouldn't make a difference. It is preferred to plug in the GPSr then turn the GPSr on. If oyu plug in the GPSr while it is on there is a chance of a power surge which is bad.
  11. If you don't have a manual you can download one from garmin. I haven't yet read a garmin manual, just look at pictures, it is very well documented, even just by the pictures.
  12. I just bought an eTrex yellow on ebay for $44. It had broken glass, but works. Luckily my local hardware store is running a rebate on plexi that makes it free I will replace the glass with plexi for now.
  13. Check out all the link, especially utopia. http://www.texasgeocaching.com/tools.asp
  14. also you can make you own cable. www.pfranc.com
  15. At the event you will definately find someone to go caching with then.
  16. Paper route is always a good source of income.
  17. Yea, it's normally about $100US here. With ebay you have to watch it constantly. I have a couple of watches on some used GPS devises that jus tpopped up recently. If you have your heart set on an eTrex it will be tough to find it for much lower that it;s msrp as it is a newer model. And old model like a GPS 45 you can find quite cheap. That's still good enough fo caching
  18. janx, that's a small part of the big picture. If he did it once he will do it again. That's the problem. Ignoring him won't stop it. Well it could if he got bored of it.
  19. Find someone in your area to go caching with. There might be a local or state caching website you can inquire at, or here. I frequent www.mngca.org.
  20. Another thing you can do other than renting is find someone with a GPS and go caching with them. It is highly advisable to go caching with a partner anyway for safety reasons. There might be a website dedicated to cachers in your state. I frequent www.mngca.org. You should be able to find someone in your area.
  21. I've put up my GPS III+ for auction, but am willing to trade for it too. It works but the antenna went bad. The locknut that held on the antenna mount got loose. The internal wire that went from the antenna to the circuit board twisted and ruined the the circuit board part. I tried scraping off the circuit coating and soldering to it with no luck. Maybe you chave an idea on how to fix... It comes with MapSource software, handlebar mount, homemade data cable, homemade power pigtail. If trading I'd love a simple gps unit, can even be old. As long as I can cache with it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MESSE%3AIT&rd=1 You can email me with inquires at sirpoonga@hotmail.com
