For example, they can't hold on to the bug for more than a week, and they can't move it more than one adjacent state. They should be able to move their own travelbug as well, but not log it in and out of the same cache. They would be required to leave the travelbug in the cache box for another cacher to pick up and move along. OPPS What I wanted to say was....I agree with these suggestions to the rules... I think a ruling on TEAM movement may need to be addressed, if we're going to limit personal movement to a pick and drop. There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.

  3. quote:Originally posted by FoxRacing:I am new to this stuff, but have noticed something that may be worth changing on the website... When using the geocaching.com search facility, distances for searching and to caches are measured in miles, with km in brackets. Coming from Australia, km are everything and I would happily do without the miles. The option to allow each user to select their preffered units of measure in their profile would be great, with the web site then using these units to provide all distance measurements. Would help me... Cheers, Justin This may be one of those features that is covered under "membership has it's benifits" Paid members have an option to select either Miles or Kilometers in the Pocket Query Generator. The Pocket Query Generator does alot of things that people seem to request to have changed. I don't know if membership is an option for you, or whether it would be the correct answer. Pricey though AT $5 for 2 applications. So if you've got a dedicated set of geocaching attire, this might be the way to go if you cache a lot. Considering my plans for the summer this might not be a bad idea, but my question is: will washing your clothes kill the effectiveness? I would think so, so either you're gonna reek after a week or else you'll go thru it a lot faster. If I remember the Repel can correct, it was effective for 2 weeks or 2 washings, whichever comes first. If you only cache on weekends like most people, thats only $1.25 for a weekend of protection from Lyme. Cheaper then a bottle of water, a gallon of gas, or a burger. Doesn't seem that pricey. I would still like to find a local source for the mil spec stuff. Thats good for 1 year. When you find that mil spec stuff please be sure to let us all know...I got me a good pair of Gators that I been treating....Those don't get washed.... 5. there's a Hotel in Pa near the I-80 and I-81 interchangeI-80/I-81 Travelbug Hotel I haven't made it out there yet...but it's on the list. There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
  6. I Used to belong to GreenPeace, and Clean Water Action and several Other Groups. I was also Active in the Boy Scouts of America, and "Project S.O.A.R" in the late 60's early 70's. I agree that there are far too many LEftist eco-wacko's SO I like to declare myself a "Conservationist" Balancing the Needs of Man with the Needs of Nature. Given a Chance Nature Recovers... Take a Look at Pennsylvania today! 100 Years ago those Forests you see today were Gone over 75% of the state. The Noth Central Region had no trees, old photos show entire mountain ranges clear of everything. Those areas have all recovered, some better than Others, but they recovered... Everything needs to balance....otherwise you have complete Chaos....Eco-wackos don't like to hear about the killing of Deer or anything else...but how else can you maintain a Balance? 7. Major Hi-jinks goign on.... Without going into too much detail, I found out that several bugs have been found in new caches that were NOT logged!!! this is going to reek chaos for those poor souls trying to keep track of teh bugs. There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
  8. Well with the Start of the 3rd weekend we see what appears to be a Detour for the Lead bug. It'll be interesting to watch this development. AS of last night that stats were: NY 42 PA 18 OH 11 WV 1 GA 1 AS reported by "Junglehair" to check how your bug is doing in relationship to other bugs check out this linkrace stats(if someone will let me know who created this website, I will passone the Proper credit!!!) it looks like warm weather(with some rain in most of the northeast) so we should see some major movement this weekend. And maybe those poor souls left at the starting gate will finally head out. Bug reporter Geo-packrat out... There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
  9. You can also get the Pennsylvania Atlas and Gazetteer in Most Convience stores, this is a topo map book of the entire state with GPS grids, the scale is 1:150,000 which is good enought to get you very close.(The book is published by DeLorme) I keep one in my car. Congrats on your First Placement and Approval...I was ready to get approval last week, but due to the High Water, the Ranger's office has been unaccessable. I have 2 boxes ready to go, but PA requires Approval from the EPA/DEP for geocaches placed in either State Forest land or State Parks. Hopefully I will get to see the Ranger this Friday and see about placement of 2 caches. Again Congrats on your First cache. Robert There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
  11. Ok the Second full week of the Great Cannonball Race is over. There's been a lot of grumbling on the sidelines, but Oscar still Holds First Place in Tennessee. Although stats place Herbie in Second, the following bugs are in Ohio, Reno Rum Runner,Screaming GoGO mobile, and tilly and Toby tortoises... Pennsylvania appears to have gotten a few more bugs, and there's beem movement AWAY from teh Erie Region...which seem to be over loaded with Bugs. Meanwhile back in NEW York Burt & DOm still appears to be resting in the North East Corner going the wrong way.....and He's not Alone. Yellow SchoolBus seems to goign the same way. A few other bugs who were headed that way got their act together and turned around and are sitting in the Syracuse region. There's also a rumour that a few bugs are still sitting near the starting gate. Till next week this is your Bug-reporter geo-packrat out There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.

  13. COnsidering since 90% of the things I do, I do alone, I have a Northface fanny pack(750 square inches) that contains emergency food, first aid kit, emergcy blanket, 2 rain ponchoes, waterproof matches, knife, and cache supplies. Plus it has pouches for 2 waterbottles. I let my wife know which cache I plan to hit and what time I should be home. if I need to spend a night in teh woods I'm prepared for it. On of the Old Locals told me about Bleach...so I tried it. Poured Clorox on a hand-towel and rubbed all over the poison ivy. BOY DID IT BURN!!!!!! But in 2 days...it was ALL GONE!!!!!!! 16. quote:Originally posted by The Buzzard's:Yes, We're sending out all seven of Snow White's dwarfs, since she left them for the prince. They are going out on their own vacations, hoping to travel the U.S. going south to DisneyWorld, then over to DisneyLand and back home, which is going to be in the woods here in central PA. After that we want to post a scrapbook of their travels, before we send them on their next mission. We don't want them to be sitting around, so we're hoping people will post photos with notes to accomplish this. Originally, we were just going to have them travel to TB Hotels, but we don't think they'll be able to see as much along the way. Does this idea sound like a decent one??? This sounds like a GREAT plan....I am going to release Where the Buffalo Roam very soon It has a few goals, and hopefully educate a few people. I found it at a Fleamarket, but the history of the BUffalo in unbelievable. 18. They haven't hit our area yet....but those New DOritos' COntainers look like they would make a good Micro cache. Has anyone seen them? are they Plastic? and would they make a good mini? There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
  19. When I first read about signature Items...I knew what I wanted MINE to be.... My Cyberstation has those die-cast Pencil sharpeners surrounding it...You know the ones they look like a brass toy....So for my few finds I left regular pencil sharpeners cause I couldn't find a supplier for the Die-cast ones.....Well I now have them.... Look for them in caches I now visit.... There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
  20. Well After one Full Week I see Travel BUgs scattered all over the NorthEast. Oscar's Express seems to have jumped out to an early start, and is in Tennessee already with a good lead. Herbie is OHIO, along with Screaming Gogomobile. There are almost 2 dozen bugs in Pa, and everyone else is still in New York.... And in true Cannonball fashion, Burt & DOm, Cannonball Mrs Toad, Gimpy Viper, Hacksaw Cannonball SWAT, MIG 21 Fighter Jet, Pour Me A BUD, Travel Buggy and Yellow Schoolbus, are about 150 miles east of the starting grid in NorthEast New York. It needs to be very light (I'm a weakling) and it needs to be or become very small (i've got a little car and precious little storage space) Any ideas? Oh yeah, I'm also broke so it has to be cheap, too. King Pellinore Inflatables really fit the bill for this....I owned one of the large Coleman 4 person inflatables for years. I used it as a dive platform for near shore ocean diving, and support for drift dives on the river. It took a lot of abuse...But I never used it for anything beyond it's design...it's NOT an OPEN water boat, and shouldn't be used as one... But for something cheap that will fit in the truck of your car...and if you're not ready to get wet.....you're not ready to go out on the water in one......I would NOT use one in COLD water! 24. I just went on a search today.....I didn't log it as a Did NOT find....but I did Post a NOTE, as a did NOT find.... I'm not going to log a Did NOT find due to the amount of snow still at the site. And it's possible that I was 'digging" in the right spot. which in looking at photos after I got home I wasn't. A "did NOT find" seems to be more of a marker that a cache may be missing, and not any indicator of the searcher's ability to find things. Now once the snow melts I'll go back....if I don't find it then...I will Log a Did NOT FInd. regardless of finding or not finding....a NOTE at least should be posted. Now you're going to get a Hexidecimal math lesson or two. $1000 Bill geocaching is living in a 30 foot circle Actually that isn't such a bad suggestion....True in the conversion you would have "gaps", but instead of doing a total renumbering just grandfather those caches at the Number they currently own. Since the numbers are used only for Identification purposes it wouldn't hurt that a new cache being assigned GC000G after GCFFFF...True if it was really BASE 26 it would have a lower value, but since we're not using it for addition or subtraction there should be any Problem!!! Logically I don't see a problem if we do this....RAM access is run the same way. There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.
