We regularly watch and ignore Events. No need for them to be in PQs for weeks in advance... M

Two new icons mentioned in Groundspeak weekly newsletter
Delta68 replied to addisonbr's topic in General geocaching topics
I agree totally with all of this! I my opinion, Groundspeak are making A BIG MISTAKE by creating cache icons which are unobtainable to the majority. Consider this: A few years ago here in the UK, the country's most popular TV soap opera (Coronation Street) went from three episodes per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) to having one on Sunday evenings as well. Did this increase the viewing figures? No! Viewing figures dropped because people were busy doing other stuff on Sundays and they soon realized that if they missed Sunday's episode, they could live with missing the normal weekday ones as well... What I'm saying is, more icons = less interest. There are quite a few UK cachers who pride themselves with having found at least one of every cache type. Add in types that are not achievable, and interest in any other new types will dwindle as well Oh yes, we have set four Wherigo caches and on several occasions have lent our Oregon or PDA to cachers keen to do them but not having the necessary equipment. That is correct, though it can mean one icon totally covering another on the map (if it is virtual/puzzle posted coordinates the same place as another cache). There is no guideline against that as far as I can see; but it seems good practice to try and avoid that. Indeed. Best not to list multiple caches at the same co-ords. We listed a pair of puzzles once where the fake co-ords were the suggested parking (same for both). The reviewer asked us to move one slightly so they didn't over lap They sometimes get moved after publication: link However, recent guidelines about a Multi's listed co-ords must be the starting point, (a good idea) could mean that they overlap a Trad or another Multi M

My guess is that they are not I asked a similar question a couple of months ago link M

I couple of years ago I had to visit a food factory in South Wales and was amused to see bi-lingual warning signs in English and Polish! Mark
-
Doesn't the 1993 Welsh Language Act mean that by law you have to have your cache listings (for caches in Wales) in Welsh as well as English? Mark
-
THIS IS SO TRUE!! The standard of English on many caches is absolutely appalling!! There's a cacher not too far from us who can't even spell 'cache' correctly Mark
-
Definitely prepare a few caches in advance but don't just stick with trads We've done Trads, Multis, Puzzles, Earthcaches, Virtuals and a Wherigo in Holland/Germany It's great when you see you're the only Brits ever to have done them Back in 2008 we chose the massive Multi Coevorden for our 1000th find and it took a vast amount of preparation. Great fun though! We've off to Belgium later in the year and in a pq of the closest 500 caches there are only 150 trads! I've already cracked a few puzzles in preparation... Mark

Just mark it as missing and forget about it! This coin of ours has been with the same person for 18 months now. Just consider it stolen

Disappearance of cache count totals on 'Friends'
Delta68 replied to explorer_olway's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
The totals never worked correctly so they were removed in the last update No loss really Mark -
Shrops '07 (GC13AJ2) had a great 'talent' show ... Mark

We've got a 2007 lackey coin as well We were given it as a raffle prize at the 1st UK Mega Event - bit of a booby prize really as we can't ever 'own' it

Mine's a TB Because I'm a cheapskate, I made my own large tb thing about the size of a car numberplate and it's fixed to the dog-guard in the back- clearly visible from the outside (if the car is clean ;-) ) The original dog-tag is taped to a side window as proof of authenticity. It's been spotted a number of times parked up while we've been out caching... It's sometimes quite a surprise when the discovered logs appear! If our car was something a bit cooler I'd have the tracking code down the sides in large letters Just wouldn't look right on a Mondeo Mrs D's car has a standard car TB sticker which was a prize from Stokesy for being the first to discover his! Mark

Not a car, but this cache is pretty unique (long since archived)
-
Cars that are actual Geocaches are rare Just about everyone who went to the First UK Mega Event in Harrogate found GCKTK0 Fast Forward - Such den Bulli as it was parked outside This one was on our to-do list and I was gutted when I saw that the owners (and the car) had been to some caches in Germany just a few days after we had!! 10 Year Anniversary events
Delta68 replied to purple_pineapple's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Just when you thought this thread had gone... An argument for making Events not add to overall count? click Of course, multiple logging of trad caches to cover so called 'temporary caches' would still happen... Glad that sort of nonsense doesn't happen over here; it makes me feel queasy! Mark -
Erm.. I know your plan Luke You want to adopt them so you can see the co-ords for the final locations I would have been tempted to take on GC15616 Catherine De Barnes but it is archived GC1EX9C is great Multi but I'd have thought you'd need to actually find it first to know exactly what you're taking on! Mark
-
Yeah, I though about that as well. A set of 'radio button' options would be a neat solution Duplicate logs or logging a find to drop a trackable are my usual reasons for deleting logs If there was no name in the log book (or no proof received in the case of an EarthCache) I would contact the cacher first asking for an explanation before deleting anything just in case there's a good reason for no log After all, we set caches for people to find! Mark
-
Er... 'contacting' emails come from 'noreply' as well. I'm obviously not privy to the inner workings of the deleted log emailer, but surely passing another parameter to it in the form of a bit of text isn't going to be too tough Mark
-
Too right! I personally have made numerous suggestions which have received very positive responses here on this forum but I don't recall ever getting a reply from TPTB saying it's a good idea or even ruling it out entirely Thanks Mark

Perhaps the OP wanted them sorted by distance. The existing links don't Mark

You may have noticed a thread in the UK forums where it mentions that someone is stealing caches and posts a Needs Archived. At the moment this is happening about 50 miles or so from us. I wanted to set up a Needs Archived notification so I would notice if these activities were getting closer and change all our caches to PMO if need be That's my only reason. I was a bit surprised that the option wasn't available... Thanks Mark
-
Why isn't 'Needs Archive' an Instant Notifications option? It would be nice to be notified when someone posts a 'Needs Archive' because I am nosy! Thanks Mark

This is correct Examples Accidental duplicate logs (seems to happen more frequently these days with people using the iPhone app) When new cachers log a find instead of a note when dropping a TB on the same occasion as the find Actual bogus logs. ie no corresponding name in logbook A few of our caches have genuine multiple finds on them because different members of a family team visited independently on different days. Strange, but OK Thanks Mark
