We did a similar set in the same area last March but also did the Kintbury Kapers Wherigo to make it Eight cache types in 3 hours! GAGB had a cito and a normal event last weekend. I half expected someone to attend both and also find eight other types. We set a series called Cache Type Compendium (GC19M61) a few years ago which rewarded cachers with 5 types in a short circular walk. We also have an Earthcache and a Wherigo cache both within a 15 minute drive of the area. Then just bung in the excellent Warwick Webcam which is about half an hour's drive away....

Is anyone else getting a bit miffed....
Delta68 replied to Pharisee's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Drifting a bit off topic... One of our series consists of 24 LBHs and a Bonus (+ 2 old trads and 2 ECs on the route) The logs have all been really positive so I was a bit irritated/puzzled when a few months ago someone just put '' on half the caches and then the same again on the other half of the series the following day. Although the individual logs hadn't said much, the log on the bonus more than made up for it : Mark -
Why? It's probably not so much the case now, but having trackables in caches used to attract visitors On a few occasions we made a conscious effort to visit caches which hadn't been visited for a while and contained stuck TBs (there used to be a bookmark list of caches with stuck TBs) Even now, if we were about to find the last cache of the day and there was a choice between one containing a trackable and one without, (assuming they were the same in all other respects) I'd choose the one with the trackable Mark

We always add the find number to the end of our logs The shortest log we've ever posted has been just that number Mark -
I'm frowning! I would only move trackables from our caches if the owner requested it Mark

"It's out there" - UK competition

On Tuesday I went to Blacks in Solihul and they the manager knew about the promotion because they had been copied on an email but they weren't a participating store so couldn't help So, having checked the list of participating stores I went to Cotswold yesterday and they knew nothing about it I returned today with a printout and the manager phoned Garmin and after being put through to three different departments, was told they knew nothing about it. He then phoned someone at his head office (I suggested this first) and spoke to someone who had at least heard of it but said it hadn't started yet and the code cards hadn't been issued yet Mark -
Gosh! I didn't realise that there was a record for it! Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, England Starting out from Belgium at 07:30 and finding the last one in England at about 21:00 Mark

Thumbs down from me! If we're doing a trail it's nice to actually find the caches. Spending ages looking for them is just tedious. Edited to add: If it is a trail with a lot of caches it will attract a lot of cachers and the area near each cache will get destroyed very quickly! Mark

what would you class as a good cache?
Delta68 replied to thehazes's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
We found a cache in Belgium last week which was in a CarPool carpark so by definition it was a drive-by, but it's obvious that a lot of thought/effort had gone into setting it. The cache was an excellent 'hidden in full view' hide, regular sized, visible from 100yds away once you know it's there - can't say what it was though as we might copy it! Mark -
We've just got back from a holiday in Belgium where we visited several Earthcaches. It's all very well having the cache descriptions and questions in English but if the information required is on a Dutch-only information board, you're stumped. We put a lot of effort into trying to answer the questions armed with a pathetic phrasebook and we have had permission to log some finds but one or two COs are being very picky despite having photos to prove we were there!! If the cache page had been purely in Dutch we probably wouldn't even have bothered trying... Mark

We like to seek out old virtuals and other old caches Filling the 'Month Set grid' is one of our objectives - we took a slight detour from NE Belgium to Calais last Friday so we could find GC40 set in July 2000! The same journey enabled us to find caches in SIX different countries in 24 hours The UK county map is coming on nicely as well... (We haven't finished logging yet so our stats page is waaay out of date) Mark

Bourne Valley Greenway Caches Gone?
Delta68 replied to muscliffemouse's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I keep meaning to leave a few local ones so we have some nice and local start/end point for 'Maximum distance in a day' stats... ... but temptation gets the better of me Mark -
Hence the question (after nearly three months) if there is any news! Mark
-
ditto! We're keen to visit Ireland but need to know if it's worth holding on until there's a Mega to go to at the same time. Mark
-
The 'cachers' here admit not finding the cache Link Makes no odds though really as they only signed ONE cache log in the whole series! Does it matter? Yes, when you're the next one along and refer to past logs for assistance... Mark

A request for help at Snowdon and Scafell Pike
Delta68 replied to Simply Paul's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Any news on the Snowdon and Scafell Pike bonus caches yet? Mark -
I've just read that and it appears to make no sense whatsover What does 'The coin may be collected by another player.' mean? What does 'You will receive an email when a trackable you own has been added to a collection' mean?
