  1. Is that right??... If so, I may well change my caches to PM only. I'm 90% sure it's the case. I mentioned caching to a colleague and told him about the iPhone app as I knew he had an iPhone A few months later I was taking a lunch time stroll into the town centre and caught up with him. He said he'd downloaded the app but hadn't tried it out yet. He brought up the details of the nearest cache there and then - and he didn't even have a username! (He's very wary of registering any personal details on any website) Mark
  2. The best thing to do is run your own stats using GSAK and FindStatsGen You can then LOCK any caches to the D/T rating it was when you found them.
  3. Doesn't surprise me in the least that trackables were going missing. Users with the iPhone Geocaching app can see cache details without even having to register a user name on GC.com! This is one of the reasons why we set all our caches to Premium Member Only Mark
  4. I expect I'll remember more good ones over time... This one's clever: How's Alfred? The answer is on the OS Map Mark
  5. Back 2 Bay 6 ! Wherefore art thou Wherigo? We found this one very early in our caching career Weird Dog Door (It's an anagram of Dorridge Wood) and ever since, we've always refereed to dog gates next to stiles as Weird Dog Doors Mark
  6. I have to agree. Stonehenge Virtual is pointless - we all already knew there were some stones there! The nearby Woodhenge and Sun Gap virts are much more interesting as there were places we would not have gone to if it hadn't been for caching. :-) Mark
  7. Cost They are run by a company called Minator Mazes and cost $50k to host plus shipping Mark
  8. Hi, I was (and I guess Delta68 was as well) referring to two large series in the South of England, see GC1JZKT and GC1PP7F. Nothing to do with Mega Events. Correct! Events can't be favo(u)rite-ed anyway Mark
  9. We've awarded favourites to Archived caches as well! ;-) More difficult though, is when there is a series with no bonus eg UK Megas 1 & 2 The series as a whole was great but the individual caches do not stand out from the crowd.... Mark
  10. Can you link me to that PQ so I can reproduce this? Thanks. This is my 500 closest to home unfound http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?pq=163a608c-b1a3-4c31-85a8-680eaeb73564 As it stands, the last one on the list is 17.9 miles from home When I sort by favourite it just lists the 500 caches in the UK with the most votes. The first one being 93 miles away 'Royal Observatory Greenwich Cache' Thanks
  11. a) There might be a delay in FTF on your cache due to bad weather b)You can only log a 'play anywhere' Wherigo on Geocaching.com if it has a corresponding physical cache and Geocacache page. There are a few Play Anywhere Wherigos with physical Geocaches to find* but I'm not aware of any in the UK *Ranger Fox's Whack-a-Lackey for example and there is a Dutch one which is based on it Mark
  12. BUG: If I preview a PQ and then click sort by 'Favorite', the first page shows caches which weren't in the original PQ
  13. I was well chuffed when Four Windows got changed to a Locationless - and pretty miffed when it got changed back as my sole reason for logging a find in the first place was in the hope that it would get changed! I logged a pukka locationless last January using the iphone but the uk reviewer deleted it (see my profile) There are still a number of logs on locationless caches which were logged this way last January and have NOT been deleted because they were backdated. How do I know this? I have a bookmarklist with ALL the locless caches on and received emails each time one was logged. Someone logged a find on a locless a couple of weeks ago as well, but mentioning it here is like claiming you're sane in a asylum - no one listens!! Mark
  14. To be fair, a couple of German souvenirs were amongst the first. As was Mega Scotland!
  15. Giz a link to this cache then....please? currykev can't because promoting ones own caches is against the rules I suspect it's this one: Eyes Closed Mark
  16. We have contacted German, Dutch, Belgian and French cachers on numerous occasions What I normally do is send an email in English but say 'Hello' and 'Thanks' etc in their native language as it's really appreciated Make sure your English is accurate though and they can then do their own translation We've received emails in other languages as well and it's not a problem.... Mark
  17. I was just about to tack this in a reply to another thread but thought it deserved one of its own I just generated a normal PQ with 500 caches in it and it came through as an email attachment OK but does not show up in the 'Pocket Queries Ready for Download' tab. Just something to bear in mind in the short term if anyone is planning anything with PQs holding more than 500 caches... Mark [edited to make sense ]
  18. We were there! What normally happens (and this was no exception) is that a box/tub is put in an obvious place and cachers drop TBs in it and other cachers will 'discover' or retrieve them as they desire. Trackables do sometimes go awol at events but I'm sure* your trackables will have been picked up by someone and they will be logged out in due course. * I have no idea really Mark Edited to add: Also, a lot of the trackables still there look like people's personal collections and will probably stay there for some time even though they have physically gone home with their owners
  19. 'kin Stupid isn't it!!! :) At least WE have actually been caching in Niedersachsen!! I queried this on Facebook and on Feedback as I could see this was going to happen Predictably, TPTB took no notice Mark
  20. Since the 9th November upgrade! Release notes Mark
  21. Might have been a genuine mistake... and they might be bemused why the log got deleted. A couple of years ago we had a 'Found' email notification on a cache which is part of series and I was puzzled why someone in the US would have only found that one. They had deleted the log by the time I looked at the page so I looked to see what else they had done and it was obvious that they had simply mistaken a Z for a 2 when manually typing in the GC code Mark
  22. Mrs D spotted this in this month's Country Walking
  23. Buffs for Dogs Mark
  24. In the first instance I'd report it to the local council and see what they say. We encountered a similar problem a couple of years ago when our son got hooked up on a fence when trying to go underneath an electric fence in the rain, it was a very distressing experience for him and we reported it to the county council in that area who in turn passed it on to the Health and safety bods.
  25. I use GSAK but I've complicated things by splitting hides and finds into separate tabs on our profile I wrote this simple cribsheet (for the normal output) a few months ago for a couple of local cachers Mark
