  1. I believe the above picture should work fine. I believe the Sensor is just a resistor when there is light and a wire when there is none. If the light shines TOO bright just play around with resistors till you get a low enough light not to drain the batts too fast. Just put the resistor in the series, anywhere in the series will work.
  2. Right down the street from me! It's the weekend after my wedding, hopefully my newfound wife will let me go I'll post it on the floridacacers.com web site as well.
  3. Dont think a 22 could have done that. Was this in a state park or a park where firearms are not allowed? If it was I would suggest bringing this up to the authorities. Not to complain about your cache but so they will know that people are using firearms in the park. I know I wouldnt want to be biking in a park where people are shooting off guns next to me, unless it's at a gun range within the park (there is a park near me with a gun range, Markem Park).
  4. Team Shuey made it in the Tampa news: http://www.tampatrib.com/Baylife/MGA5N3A1VCD.html They had posted it on floridacachers.com but thought you guys would enjoy a read. Orions
  5. quote:Originally posted by poksal:So... I can purchase a domain name... then point that name to my my present web page, and to all the world my web page is now XXXXXXXX.com ????? Then for a small fee I can have my own created named e-mail address at the same XXXXXXXX.com ???? Thus I would not have to state all my long lettered/numbered mumbo-jumbo current location to pass along my web page address ??? ... for about 85¢ a month ???????? !!!! I can dig this!! ** The worst suggestion of a life time may be the catalyst to the best idea of the century, don't fail to listen to suggestions. First question: Yes godaddy and many other hosting companies offer domain fowarding for domains bought through them. Now I know it is free for them to "foward" domain names. For example if your current page is www.longdomainname.com/myname and you purchased the domain name www.shortname.com through godaddy and had them forward the domain name. When someone typed www.shortname.com the Address would automacticly change to www.longdomainname.com/myname. Now if you want another type of fowarding called "Masking" they charge another 6 bucks a year. But basicly when someone typed www.shortname.com the address bar would stay www.shortname.com and the visiter wouldnt even see the address www.longdomainname.com/myname Second Question: Most domain register companies (including godaddy) offer email accounts as well so you could have myname@shortdomain.com if you wanted. I know that godaddy offers one box for $10 bucks a year. I hope this answered some of your questions. Orions
  6. Bravo.. My hat goes to those who help further this hobby. I think having the park officals take part in this is a win win situation. More visitors to parks means more revenues for parks means more parks for us
  7. Try posting in the regional area, might get more of a response.
  8. This site is WAP compatable???!?!? Hmm going to have to check it out on my cell phone in the morning.
  9. If someone does I wouldnt suggest people post coords to the actual finds. The coords should be given to the authorities only, we all know there are sickos out there who would love to collect parts for there own private collection.
  10. quote:Originally posted by skydiver:Later: And then I notice a couple people already mentioned godaddy. Oh well. Now can everyone pretend that I'M not an idiot? Please? I wouldnt say that. It's always nice to hear other people's comments, even if it's to repeat what is already said. At least it re-enforces the point.
  11. Well I always use godaddy.com to register my domain names. They do, do hosting but I use them just to handle my domain names since it's only 9 bucks and I've have great experiences with them over the years. I have a large account with dixiesys.com which I can host over 20 sites. The prices with dixiesys are good and have good experiences with them as well. Just registered floridacachers.com with godaddy.com and it's not sitting on a dixiesys.com server. Check it out if you like.
  12. Well after reading some of the other people's response to this I dont think it would "Hurt" to have such a forum here. The rest of us who dont agree on it just can ignore the discussion. I know I really only ready three of the dozen groups of discussions on this forum site. I'll change my vote to yes. But I would suggest someone keep a eye on it for imature post.
  13. Would it be tastefull to ask that Cachers bring some flowers out on this cache and leave it at one of the graves, I've visited graves of loved ones and always look at other sites which looks as if no one has come by in a Loooong time to pay respect.
  14. I go biking often at Sharkvally Park down here in the everglades (no sharks here) and run into Gators that love to lie in the middle of the road in the afternoon/evening hours. They do it for the heat the ground gives off. I found that they ignore you if you try to make any noise and DONT try to throw rocks or anything to get them to move away, most of them will think your throwing food and WILL come closer. I have yet to find a way to get them to move since most of them are not scare of people. I usually get a head start and ride right pass them as fast as I can or I just turn around.
  15. There are web sites for dating and web sites for caching. Lets keep it that way pls. Now if you meet your love at a Geocaching event GREAT, but lets keep this site just for caching. Also you dont want to turn off the woman who DO cache.
  16. quote:Originally posted by bitbrain:Would it count as "meeting on the trail" if pater47 just followed you around & laughed at you while you were looking for caches in his local area? Only if after you found his cache and left with it, laughing back , only to return it after shutting him up...
  17. Glad you could enjoy our sunsine state. I've lived here over 24 years and I've never seen a armadillo, well at least not a live one (seen them dead on side of road). Now that is one animal I would enjoy seeing here. Congratz on surviving our wildlife
  18. Thats a nice page and thx for sharing it with us. I'll be heading up to Vancouver Island for my honeymoon in July. Hope to do some hiking and maybe hit some of your caches. Orions
  19. From the looks of it those caches are in remote places becuase of the few finds in 3 years. I would like to see which has the MOST finds.
  20. And on his first cache too! Sounds like a good idea to put the points, but what the cacher did was just what everyone should do, be nice. I've read accounts of people taking water logged journals, restoring them so they could be read correctly and rewriting the journals. It people like this who make it worth while for those who leave the caches out there for people.
  21. It's not how acurate they are compared to a Etrex it's how well they proform under different conditions. Remember not all the wreckage will be in fields. A lot of it will have trees overhead. It's at these points where these will proform better then a standard Etrex.
  22. Well I new to caching but I'm hooked. I realized that the old web site for Florida Cachers was down so ask around in the Southeast forums and we now have our own site. Doesnt look great yet but just wanted to get the Forum up and running first. I'll be putting in some more work in the next few days. If the site doesnt come up for you give it a day since the domain name was registered earlier today. www.floridacachers.com [This message was edited by Orions on February 11, 2003 at 08:51 PM.]
