  1. I'm working on a 20 Reviewer challenger. You have to find caches that were enabled by 20 reviewers. I am up to 13. It is harder because ProjectGC and MyGeocachinprofile don't keep track of that. Also, since reviewers are based in geographic areas, it gives me one more reason to collect different states and countries.
  2. I don't think so. Behind her in the photo, you can see the tombstones of all those who tried for the cache in the winter.
  3. I have a streak going. I have been keeping it alive with LPC and GRCs, but I am running low on those. I have also been seeing which nearby caches have been found lately and going for those. We haven't had it as bad as Boston, so I really can't complain.

    Pi Day?

Wow! I can't wait to get it for the wife. I love the very classic almost stained glass look. Now I kinda want one of islander1988's who has the completely opposite futuristic look. You all did such a great job on your color schemes.
  5. I inadvertently logged the same trackable twice. I discovered it in a cache and then someone brought it to an event. It didn't count the trackable twice in my statistics. So no harm, no foul. I suppose having a smiley on the TB will prevent me from targeting a specific cache for the TB, but I still will probably accidentally multilog things at events. If you have seen one TB with an army man, you have seen them all right?
  6. You are 100% correct. The FTF hounds come in handy when it comes to new hiders. Let them rush out and find that the cache hasn't been placed yet or the coordinates are 150ft off or the cache is placed somewhere surrounded by "no trespassing" signs.
  7. Log a visit to whatever local cache you want and the odometer will start from there.
  8. We need to find someone here who works in construction or electrical and can send Colleda a skirt for the lamp post. If there is going to be a terrible cache in Australia, we might as well help make it as crappy as possible. Of course it will be tough finding one that fits perfectly due to fact that they converted to the metric system 30+ years ago.
  9. From what I have seen, the distance is less interesting then the number of people who have actually retrieved/dropped the bug. A flight attendant can put more mileage on a TB in a month than most TBs will get in a lifetime. Regardless, they are just bringing up a decent cache search. It is going to be quite awhile before we can advance query TBs.
  10. Bird houses can be fun caches. Google WVTim's Gadget Caches for inspiration. I was just saying that finding them is rather easy when someone gives it away in the description "Tweety's hideout" hint "Look up". Most people hang it from a chain that is tied around the tree. Not that anyone would, but it would be a bad idea to use anything made from copper. The other possibility is to attach it to a post.
  11. If you find a cache left out in the open, you should feel great that you were able to rehide it for the next finder. You enhanced someone else's enjoyment of the cache plus you prevented the container from being mistakenly thrown away by a muggle. That is a big win in my book. Besides, there are some caches you really don't have to hunt for. "The bird house" "Wendy's LPC" "Another GRC" Geee I wonder where those are hidden.
  12. I have the complete opposite question as the OP. Does a Wherigo require stages at all? I thought the idea was to go from zone to zone and have the GPS act as proof you were there. I tried one the other day that just asked me questions and then gave me coordinates. I didn't even leave the house.
  13. What is more important, the puzzle or the cache? It sucks when you solve a difficult puzzle and the container is missing. Some COs have told me to log a find even though I never saw a container. Other times I have gone back (or not) after the container was replaced. On the flip side, my son has accidentally found a couple of mystery cache containers. In those instances we logged a find without solving the puzzle. Right now, I only have 1 Mystery cache and I am happy when people find it regardless of how they find it. I am also happy when someone tells me they enjoyed the puzzle even though they have no interest in finding the cache.
  14. That is my issue as well. I have regular sized containers ready, some puzzles created, themes, etc, but I am low on good real estate. Whenever a cache hider gives up the game or moves away, their caches are adopted.
  15. I love geotrails. I have only done 4 of them so other people may have more experience and suggestions. The trail should work for both the geocacher and the people putting the trail together. What are the goals of your trail? Is it to just bring people to your property? Do you want them to support local businesses? What is your budget? These are questions you need to ask before you start. Examples: If you have a non-profit small museum and want to increase visitors. You can simply add a few caches with code words and give out a free TB or path tag. If you want people to support your local hotels and restaurants, you can make a bigger trail (12 to 25 caches), make one cache a night cache, and reward people with a really nice geocoin.
  16. If I spied a washing machine in the woods, I might clean up around it. But I'd likely try to make it into a Geocache. I thought about that, but I don't want to be the one blamed for putting that junk there to begin with. Also, I don't want cachers to worry about needing a tetanus shot to find my hides.
  17. I'm fine with D/T ratings being optional. They can be avoided the same way caches of type "Other" or "Not Chosen".
  18. Good for you. I take kitchen sized trashbags with me whenever I go caching. I fill up 1 bag and take it out as I go. You don't have to clean it all up, just make a dent. If every cacher did that, a lot of these dumps would be gone. That being said, there are just some things you can't clean up. It amazes me how something like an old washing machine made it out into the woods. The effort getting it that deep in the woods had to be a lot more work than properly disposing of it.
  19. PQs are good, statistics are good, notifications are ok if you like being FTF, different ways to sort on the find a cache page is useful, but the caches themselves are the biggest draw for me. In my area, the PMO caches aren't any better than the non-PMO caches. In other places, the premium caches are much better and worth the $30 a year. Sure you could be a basic member and mooch off a premium member, but I'm not going to do that. I just wanted to add that even though the PMO caches aren't any better than the non-PMO, that there are a lot of PMO caches around my area. So just having the premium membership for the increased number of caches is worth it.
  20. I just want to add that it depends on your area. I have cached in a number of areas, but 2 totally struck me as different. 1. Williamsburg, VA. There were almost no premium caches, so I am not sure if a premium account is even worth it. 2. Martinsburg, WV. Without a premium account, you are missing out on some of the coolest caches around. If you can, find a friend with a premium account and see if it is worthwhile in your area. Go to an event and see what other folks in your area think. Since you are new, find all of the non-premium caches in your area and then upgrade if the hobby is for you.
  21. SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE GOING TO WASHINGTON DC Ok you have been warned. One of the museums owns a PVC cache that could be mistaken for a pipe bomb. Unlike most of these articles where the offending cache is nowhere near a populated area, this one is on Federal property.
  22. I have done a few near homeless camps. I do kinda feel weird being near those places, but I do feel a lot safer doing those than the ones in the middle of the woods during hunting season. I have yet to explain geocaching to a homeless person or streetwalker, but I imagine they would probably think geocaching was less crazy than the police officer I had to explain it to a few weeks ago.
  23. No doubt. It just becomes annoying when someone finds the cache 15 minutes after it comes out, but doesn't log it for days.
  24. That is what I meant. Our reviewer tends to publish new caches after dark. I prefer to find caches during the day. If I see that someone has found it before I throw my jacket on and get to the car, it saves me a trip. I'll eventually get that cache at a more convenient time. Also, I don't care about being "FTF". I only care if there is a prize.
  25. I had been tossing them in the trash, but I recently found out some people actually like this stuff.
